FSPD, FSCC ... who will get the armory? (02/16/10)
The Fort Scott City Commission has a tough decision to make as two local agencies express their interest in the former Kansas National Guard Armory building. Fort Scott Community College President Clayton Tatro and Fort Scott Police Chief Ron Puterbaugh each made their case in front of the commission Tuesday evening as to why they would be the best fit for the armory, which is now vacant and will be under the city's ownership by the end of the month...
Ragtime performances at FSMS Friday (02/16/10)
Students at Fort Scott Middle School will get a musical treat on Friday. Noted ragtime pianist Frederick Hodges will present a series of brief concerts for FSMS students from noon to 3 p.m. Friday at the school, 1105 E. 12th St. The performance is part of the Bourbon County Arts Council's continuing effort to provide art programs in Bourbon County schools...
Furniture tip-overs can be dangerous to young children (02/16/10)
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that between 2000 and 2006 there were at least 180 deaths related to tip-overs of furniture, televisions or appliances. Most of those deaths, 80 percent of them, involved children younger than 10 years of age. In 2007, the CPSC identified this issue as one of the top five hidden home hazards, according to the Safe Kids Kansas organization...

Crawford County deputies arrest 3 for violations at Twisters (02/16/10)
FRANKLIN -- Crawford County Sheriff's Deputies and an agent with the Kansas Alcohol Beverage Control conducted a bar check and sting operation at Twisters Night Club located at 136 S. U.S. Highway in rural Crawford County, on Friday which resulted in one bartender and the club manager being arrested for selling alcohol to minors. A second bartender was arrested for outstanding warrants out of Sedgwick County...

JOPLIN -- Senior Jolee Sharp has matched yet another Fort Scott High School girls basketball record in the Tigers' 50-43 Southeast Kansas League victory over Parsons in the Harold C.
