Eagle girls coast past Pleasanton

PLEASANTON -- Uniontown's girls coasted by Pleasanton in Three Rivers League action here Friday night, 60-24.

This was Pleasanton's second game in three nights. They lost to Marmaton Valley Thursday and to Chetopa, 39-30, Saturday. They also played a league game against Oswego Monday night and go to Southern Coffey County for a game tonight. The Blu-Jays, as a Class 1A school, finish regular-season play with a game at Marmaton Valley Friday night. A game against Crest that was to be held will apparently not be rescheduled.

Abbie Smith scored 22 points to lead the Eagles (4-1 TRL, 11-7 overall). Breanna Esslinger, who made three 3-point field goals followed with 12 points.

Johnnea Saulsberry and Codi Byington each had 6 points for Pleasanton (0-5, 1-15).

Uniontown outrebounded Pleasanton 42-20 with Smith hauling down 11 rebounds and Easlinger and Hayden Rathbun each collecting 7.

Smith also had 5 steals, 3 assists and 2 blocked shots. Uniontown turned the ball over only 17 times compared to 42 times for Pleasanton.

In the boys contest, Uniontown defeated Pleasanton 54-46. No other information was provided. The Eagles improved to 3-2, 7-11.

Pleasanton's boys, going through the same scheduling gauntlet as the girls, defeated Marmaton Valley in overtime Thursday, 53-53, and beat Chetopa 57-37 Saturday. The Blu-Jays are 2-2 in the league and 7-9 overall.

Thursday's doubleheader did not count in league standings but Friday's game at Marmaton Valley will.
