Fort Scott Community College football players swept Kansas Jayhawk Community College Player of the Week honors following the Greyhounds' 63-7 victory over Independence at Frary Field Saturday that gave the team its first victory of the season. Alexandria, Va., sophomore quarterback Jason Stewart was named Offensive Player of the Week as he completed 16 of 20 passes for 314 yards and four touchdowns. ...

PLEASANTON -- Uniontown High School's volleyball team will finish at least tied for second place in the Three Rivers League following a sweep of Crest and Pleasanton here Tuesday night. The Eagles (8-1 TRL, 19-6 overall) defeated Crest, 25-7, 25-7. Mandie Ridge was perfect in attack, converting all eight opportunities as she finished with 6 kills. INDEPENDENCE -- Fort Scott High's Katren Rienbolt and Cassidy Westhoff finished first and second in the girls' varsity race at the Independence Cross Country Invitational, held here Tuesday. Rienbolt, the defending Class 4A State champion, finished the 4-kilometer course in 15 minutes, 39.38 seconds while Westhoff followed in 15:54.50. Sarah Jewett of Pittsburg was third in 16:19.34...

On Wednesday, Oct. 9, Aleah Sutterby would have been 17 years old. In July, before she was able to begin her junior year at Uniontown High School, an automobile accident took her life. Aleah Sutterby, who was an active member of the Uniontown FFA and was to begin the school year as the club reporter, is remembered by her classmates and club members who have been raising money for a scholarship in her memory...

Work is progressing on the City of Uniontown's water improvement project. In January, the city was awarded a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant from the Kansas Department of Commerce for water improvements, which will be matched with $596,000 of local funds, from a USDA Rural Development grant and loan to the city. ...

Glenn E. Davis, age 89, a resident of Wichita, Kan., died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at the Medicalodge of Wichita. Services for Glenn Davis will be announced by the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, Kansas.

Kyle James Mills, age 21, resident of rural Mapleton, Kan., died Monday, Oct. 7, 2013 at his home. There was cremation with no service planned under the direction of Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main.
