Clint Walker just smiles when he thinks about the bond he shares with many area veterans and members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1165 in Fort Scott, which is celebrating it's 75th anniversary this year. USD 234 gets $36,000 more in state funding for 2006-07 budget

During a special meeting on Tuesday afternoon, the USD 234 Board of Education conducted a hearing to republish the district general fund budget from the 2006-07 school year, due to a change in the previously approved budget. The board voted to amend the district's current general fund operating budget, which stands at a little more than $11.1 million, almost a $36,000 increase from the budget figure the district projected to have in its coffers at the end of the school year, school officials said. ...

The Marmaton Valley Chapter of the Old Time Fiddlers and Pickers met Sunday afternoon June 10, at the Senior Citizen Building in Fort Scott. There were 13 entertainers and 27 guests. Several won door prizes. We were very pleased to have Mary Woodard from the Columbus Kansas Chapter with us. ...

Previous dancers return to Senior Swingers event

It was a nice evening and the attendance was better at the Monday night dance at Buck Run Community Center. The floor was in good shape and with a little wax over in the corner for dancers that needed to make their feet glide better all went well. We had two new guests tonight. Faye Arkes from Pittsburg and Rose Mary Carruthers from Fort Scott. They both were good dancers and seemed to enjoy the evening. I am sure they will be back again...

Artie F. Collins and Cora Mae Morrison were married Friday, June 13, 1947 in Kilgore, Texas. They have resided in Fort Scott for the past 42 years. He pastored the Grace Baptist Tabernacle in Fort Scott from 1965 to 1997. They have three children, Melanie Wilson and husband Gary, Artie F. Collins, Jr. (Chip) and wife Jeanette, and Roger Collins and wife Mary. They have nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren...

The 11th annual Echoes of the Trail Cowboy Gathering was a rousing success June 8-10. About 650 fans came from the all over the four states and as far away as South Dakota. A touching highlight of the weekend came Friday night when co-founder Johnny Kendrick, Richards, Mo., brought his two sons, Jackson and Sam, on stage with him.
