A reward is being offered in the case of a Fort Scott man who was the victim in a reported hit-and-run accident involving a bicycle the morning of Jan. 28 on Jayhawk Road south of Fort Scott. Kirk Hart, 61, who was involved in the accident, told the Tribune Monday he is offering a $500 reward "for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) responsible in the hit-and-run accident of a bicyclist on Jan. 28 on Jayhawk Road."...

The USD 234 Board of Education got a glimpse at activities in the district's gifted program during its Monday meeting. Angie Kemmerer, K-12 gifted education teacher in the district, updated board members on the gifted program, which she said currently consists of 42 students district-wide, 22 of whom are in an "enrichment" program and not yet in the gifted program. ...

Fort Scott Community College's women picked up a key victory at Arnold Arena Saturday afternoon as they look to secure a first-round home game in the Region VI-Division II post-season tournament. The Greyhounds' 67-57 win over Brown Mackie gives them a sweep of the Lions. Fort Scott is currently fourth in the Region at 4-3, 13-12 overall. Brown Mackie is 1-6, 9-15, with its only Region win coming over Labette, which hasn't beaten another junior college this season...

Everett LaVerne Chaplin, age 86, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, at the Fort Scott Manor. He was born Sept. 3, 1929, in Fulton, Kan., the son of Carl Chaplin and Hannah Sheat Chaplin. He married Doris Page on April 1, 1950, in Fort Scott. Everett had retired as a maintainer operator for Bourbon County. Everett was a hard worker and considered mowing his hobby. In earlier years, he had attended the Pawnee United Methodist Church...

Fort Scott Community College's men never trailed Saturday afternoon as the Greyhounds defeated Brown Mackie, 96-83, in a Region VI contest at Arnold Arena. The 'Hounds avenged an overtime loss to the Lions in Salina on December 13. It was the seventh consecutive win for the Greyhounds (6-1 Region VI, 11-13 overall), who are on their longest winning streak since the 1999-2000 team won nine straight in a year they finished 19-12...
