On June 5, 2012 an event was held in Mapleton, Kan., for The Shields Memorial Scholarship. Jean and Roy Shields were a big part of Mapleton and Mapleton arena, so this scholarship was set up in memory of them. A mountain oyster and brisket feed was held to raise funds of $1,000. Kenya medical mission 2012

The 2012 Kenya medical mission is over. The mission was primarily an eight-day free medical camp at Kiamunyeki village in Nakuru, Kenya, which saw needy people with all kinds of ailments tested and treated. More than 2,500 patients were attended to with six referrals to the main government hospital. Taco Bell partnering with Kansas Food Bank

The local Taco Bell restaurant is joining the Kansas Food Bank's Food4Kids Program to help chronically hungry children. Every Friday during the school year, the Kansas Food Bank provides backpacks of food for children who don't get enough to eat at home on the weekends. From July 9 through Aug. 5, Taco Bell restaurants will ask customers to donate $1 to become a "Child Hunger Hero" and help fill backpacks for these children for the 2012-13 school year, a news release said...
