Willa and Charles Cable recently enjoyed a trip to Hillsboro, N.M., where they visited Charles' sister Marge and husband, Tom Myers, who live on a cattle ranch. One of the trip's highlights was a Cinco de Mayo festival at Mesilla, N.M. Charles loves Mariachi music and listened all afternoon to it performed by live Mariachi bands...

Bourbon County 4-H members are involved in several fund raising efforts to secure funds needed for the operation of the 4-H program in the county. On Saturday, June 12, all seven 4-H community clubs will be participating in a mega garage sale. Breakfast will be served at the 4-H Building starting at 7 a.m. followed by lunch as well as a bake sale all day. Local youth will also be showing off their livestock in the show barn during the Old Fort Classic that day...

Ruby Burnadine Turpen, 83, of Pleasanton, Kan., died Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Manor Care, Overland Park, Kan. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, June 11, 2010 at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Pleasanton, Kan. Visitation will be from 10:30 until service time...

Lester Koch, formerly of Fort Scott, will be celebrating his 89th Birthday on June 13. Lester has four children: Deb Hand, Kathy and Jim Youngberg, Bill and Janet Koch and Sharon and Clay Wagoner, seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter...
