Hard to Please EverybodyPosted Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at 4:08 PM
I've enjoyed photographing Fort Scott High School activities for several years, first as a staffer at the Tribune and now more in a freelance fashion. Just like in any job, there is always someone who thinks they know how to do the job better. Some of these comments are from nice people who honestly want you to improve. Others, not so much.
I found out today that someone has a problem with how I photograph the local high school sports, more specifically the Lady Tigers basketball and softball games. After reading the letter I laughed uncontrollably for quite some time. Evidently I'm part of a conspiracy to promote one of the players because of personal issues. Most of my life I've always been one who enjoys a good conspiracy. This instance....there is no conspiracy. There are no personal issues to even consider.
If you have a problem, address it with me. Don't send an anonymous letter in hopes of smearing my name and calling me out to the public. If you've got a problem with a photograph or a selection of photographs then stop me at one of the games and tell me your issue. If I can do something to help I will try. it is called M-E-D-I-A and everyone is a critic when it comes to 'the media'. i say next time hand the camera to a parent...then we will see who or whom seems bias and gets scorned!!!!!
Kenny, You are correct you can't please everyone!!! Having had a child on the fort scott high softball team and now playing in college. You do a FANTASTIC job of capturing the players while they are in the game "real time" situations, and alot of other shots that we have saved and will cherish for a very long time. We are very fortunate to have you helping Scott with the coverage of our High School Sports.... THANK YOU!!!!!
There shouldn't be issues with anyone...
Actually, Kenny, they should have issues with me. You submit up to five and six photos for each game and I choose the ones that go in the paper.
And I run photos based on how they will work in print. I don't have a quota. If I did, then about five games into the season, I'd be running pictures of third-string point guards in order to make people happy. And the point of a photo isn't to make mom and dad happy; it's to tell a part of the story.
That's all I have to say. Let's let it die now.
