Tiger boys headed to state

Saturday, March 2, 2024

Just a day after the Fort Scott High School Lady Tigers earned a berth in the state tournament, the Tiger boys punched their ticket to Salina with a 49-43 win over the Chanute Blue Comets in a Class 4A basketball Sub-State championship game Saturday in Chanute.

In a barn-burner, the No. 5 seeded Tigers (16-6) were able to sink last-second free throws to outlast No. 4 seeded Chanute (16-6) and end the Blue Comets’ season. With the win, the Tigers finished 2-1 against Chanute this season.

The Tigers and Lady Tigers will compete in the state tournament, set to take place March 6-9 in Salina. More will appear in Wednesday’s print and online editions.
