City repairs broken pipe at river intake

City crews repaired a broken pipe at the river intake system by early Friday afternoon, but water customers were asked to conserve water as water levels were restored.

“Due to a broken pipe at the river intake system, the City of Fort Scott is experiencing low water,” the city announced on its Facebook page about noon Friday. “During this time, please conserve as much as possible. The leak will be repaired shortly, but it will take several hours to get back to full water levels.”

In an email to the Tribune about 1 p.m. Friday, City Manager Brad Matkin said the break was fixed, and there was “no real problem for customers,” who were being asked to conserve water “for a few hours while the towers get filled back up.”
