City commissioners approve budget with lowered mill levy

Fort Scott City Commissioners passed a resolution to adopt the 2024 budget during their regular meeting Tuesday.

Ben Hart of Baker Tilly, which is contracted with the city to provide financial director duties for the city, presented budget information to the commissioners during a public hearing to consider the 2024 budget and a levy rate that will exceed the revenue neutral rate. Hart said the goal is for “transparency and simplicity.” He said requests from departments were discussed with the city manager.
