Dorothy Ann Mangold

Dorothy Ann Mangold, age 87, La Cygne, Kan., passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019. She was born Dec. 14, 1931 to sheepherder parents, Les and Flossie Coonrod Angle, in Faith, S.D. She was the youngest of four children. Her siblings, Harve, Betty and Helen have preceded her in death. When she was young, the family relocated to Missouri. She often road horseback to school. She candled eggs in the family owned produce business in Amsterdam, Mo. She played basketball on an outside gravel court and graduated from Amsterdam High School. She married Billy Fritts in 1949. To this union, four children were born: Leslie, Larry, Gordon and Mark. Billy preceded Dorothy in 1962. After the death of her first husband, she married Jerry Spruell. He also preceded her in death. While she was married to Billy, Dorothy worked as a millwright for Bendix Corporation. After working at Bendix, she was appointed to the United States Postal Service, working as postmaster in Amsterdam, Mo., and later in La Cygne. Dorothy married Robert Mangold on Jan. 1, 1970. Together, they finished raising their blended family. Bob and D.A. also opened four grocery stores in eastern Kansas and western Missouri. Bob preceded her in death on Aug. 20, 2006. She was active in Eastern Star for over 55 years. She and Bob were also involved in the Scottish Rite Consistory and Mirza Shrine. They enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and overseas as well. Dorothy was also preceded in death by a step-daughter, Mitzi Scriven, grandson, Mike Fritts, and daughter-in-law, Debbie Mangold. Dorothy is survived by children: Larry, Gordon, and Mark Fritts, Rod Mangold and Leslie Best, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019 at the La Cygne United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery.
