County to rent equipment to prepare for quarry blasts

Tuesday, July 16, 2019

Public Works Director Jim Harris asked commissioners to consider renting a bulldozer to help with preparing quarries for future blasts.

He said dozer work is needed at the Shephard Quarry. The contractor who typically does bulldozing work for the county is unable to do the work this year, Harris said, adding that a couple of his employees are qualified to operate the machine.

The cost to rent a dozer is $20,000 per month. Harris did not say what company would lease the equipment. He said contracting the work costs about $25,000.

“While we have this dozer, we’ll look at other quarries and see if we can do some work for future blasts for 2020,” Harris said.
