Eagles close out regular season with sweep

UNIONTOWN -- Uniontown finished off the regular season with a sweep of Southern Coffey County in a non-league contest here Tuesday night.

Uniontown's girls prevailed in overtime, 52-50. Eagle boys won 48-47 in regulation after holding off a Titan rally. Both Eagle boys and girls are 13-7 going into Sedan Class 2A Sub-State Tournament play next week.

The Sub-State will be seeded later today but Uniontown's girls had already clinched a first-round home game, which will be played Monday evening. Their win and Oswego's loss to Pleasanton assured the Eagles that they will be the No. 2 seed. They'll face either Howard-West Elk or Oxford, both of which were 4-14 going into Tuesday's games.

Uniontown's boys have secured the No. 3 seed with their win and Colgan's loss at Riverton Tuesday night. The Panthers are 12-7 with one game to go that can't be counted on their Sub-State record. The Eagles will play either Oswego or Oxford. Oswego fell to 7-12 with a 68-49 loss to Pleasanton on Tuesday. Oxford was 7-12 going into a Tuesday night game at Burden-Central.

First-round boys' games will be played Tuesday night. Girls' semifinals will be held Thursday night and the boys' semis on Friday in Sedan. Both championship games will be played Saturday night in Sedan.

Both Sedan teams will be the No. 1 seed in their brackets. The girls are 18-0 and the boys are undefeated. Both play Thursday night, the girls versus Chetopa and the boys against Marmaton Valley.

Uniontown's girls trailed Southern Coffey County 11-5 after one period but outscored the Titans 10-6 in the second.

The Eagles outscored the Titans 13-6 in the fourth to force overtime, tied 40-40.

Shalina Harper led Uniontown with 22 points and 6 rebounds. Holly Shinn added 16 points. Ane Dublang had 8 points, 4 boards, 4 steals and 8 assists.

Uniontown's boys led at every break, going into the fourth quarter with a 37-28 advantage. SCC outscored the Eagles 19-11 in the fourth quarter.

David Bradbury led Uniontown with 11 points while Garrett Elder had 10.

Southern Coffey County won the girls' junior varsity contest, 24-13. Audrey Chaplin led Uniontown with 4 points.
