The roof was damaged during the April 2013 hailstorm. Fort Scott resident Gene Duvall said the Civil War era building was constructed in 1863. Former employees of the Western Insurance Company in Fort Scott have served as caretakers for the building since 1959. The building, originally known as the (Old Fort) Lunette, is near the Fort Scott National Historic Site. According to Duvall, the "Daughters of the American Revolution" were the last documented owners of the building.
