To the Editor:

Fort Scott is a wonderful place to live. As in any community, there are problems and concerns. Here in Fort Scott, problems are being perceived as opportunities for improvement and are being addressed. As residents of Fort Scott, we felt it important to gratefully acknowledge the exceptional efforts of our city's leaders.

Recently a group of citizens visited the city commission with what we felt were important civic concerns. Our city commission and city government listened, inquired, discussed and responded in a positive and productive manner. We felt like we mattered and that our concerns were important to all of Fort Scott. Our city's leaders display an integrity, dedication and a genuine concern for all the residents of Fort Scott.

We were consistently reminded, especially by our city manager (Dave Martin), that all of these civic officials are there to serve all citizens of our great city. From what we have seen and experienced, they continually act on this positive premise. To quote Mr. Martin, "We are working for you."

We wish to express our gratitude to the following civic officials for the time they spent listening and developing an action plan to make our great city event better: Dave Martin, city manager; Brent Crays, code enforcement manager; Audra Young, code enforcement assistant; Jim Adams, mayor; Cindy Bartelsmeyer, city commissioner; Gary Bukowski, city commissioner; Sam Mason, city commissioner; and Jeanie Parker, city commissioner.

We encourage all citizens to attend city commission meetings and participate by bringing their comments and concerns. The commissioners are accessible and welcome this interaction.
