To the Editor:

On behalf of the Gordon Parks Celebration at Fort Scott Community College, I would like to thank everyone who helped make the eighth annual Gordon Parks Celebration, held Oct. 7-8, a success. The celebration takes many volunteer hours to make it run smoothly and thanks go out to all those who gave of their time and talents. I would also like to thank all of the students who participated in various activities at their appropriate age level.

Events were held at various venues throughout Fort Scott and thanks go to the Fort Scott Middle School, Liberty Theatre, The Country Cupboard, the Courtland Hotel and Fort Scott Inn, Evergreen Cemetery and Fort Scott Community College for working with us to execute these events. Special thanks to the Fort Scott Tribune and KOMB radio for helping us publicize the events and for providing wonderful coverage.

Our sponsors who provide the financial support to make this event possible deserve special thanks. We appreciate the support of the Bourbon County Arts Council, Fort Scott Area Community Foundation and Walmart for their sponsorship; to in-kind donors Shepherd Team Auto, Country Cupboard, Life + Style, the Fort Scott Chamber and Trolley, and to the individual and business support from over 60 donors. Please know that your assistance in any way is much appreciated!

And finally, I would like to thank the members of our community for taking part in the celebration, whether coming to a day or evening event. It is truly gratifying to see our community honor our own native son, Gordon Parks.
