To the Editor:

This spring, the American Red Cross has responded to multiple tornadoes and flooding events that have devastated communities throughout our state, our neighboring states and the U.S.

Most recently, the tornado that affected Joplin provided a violent impact that damaged thousands of homes and buildings, including two hospitals.

With the outpouring of support, the Red Cross took immediate action, providing food, shelter and comfort to those driven from their homes by this disaster.

To date, our Bourbon County communities have sent $26,866.85 to the American Red Cross Joplin Relief efforts.

In addition to the financial support there have been countless hours of volunteer time spent with our neighbors in need. We should all be proud to call this giving community home.

Your gifts designated to the Joplin Tornado relief will help the Red Cross assist those in need in Missouri. We have served meals, sheltered hundreds of people, supplied clean-up and comfort kits, and provided health services and mental health support.

The Red Cross is also working closely with local partners to address needs and connect those affected to resources and services to get their lives back on track.

We are grateful to have your continued support as we do our job to prepare and respond to disasters here in our communities and around the world.

To learn more about your gift at work, please visit redcross.org, or call (620) 223-0980. Once again, thank you for your generous gift to the American Red Cross relief efforts in Missouri.
