Helen Lucille Mason Golladay, 95, of Fort Scott, passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 14, 2010 at Medicalodge.

She was born May 28, 1915, the daughter of Alexander Charles and Christena (Wiley) Mason.

She married Buell Edward Golladay May 7, 1938 in Kansas City. He preceded her in death March 18, 1976. She received her education in Union Center Rural School, Fort Scott High School, Fort Scott Junior College, and Pittsburg State Teachers College in Pittsburg, Kan.

She retired in 1977 from teaching after 43 consecutive years; 19 of those in rural schools of Bourbon County and 24 years in Prescott Grade School, Prescott, Kan.

Helen was a member of Bourbon County Retired Teachers Association, Past Worthy Matron of Violet Chapter No. 200 O.E.S. of Fulton and served as District Aide in the district at that time.

Survivors include her sister, Mary Nelle Beth of Fort Scott; two nephews, Alec L. Beth, of Fort Scott; and Robert A. Adams, also of Fort Scott; a niece, Charlene Simpson (Don), of Garland; and several great-nieces and great-nephews, Amy Beth Oberley, Fort Scott; John Adams, Fort Scott; Lee Adams, Fontain, Wisc.; Mason Simpson, Mound City; Scott Simpson, Fort Scott; Brady Simpson, Fort Scott; and Lesa Ireland, Stewartsville, Mo.

In addition to her husband, Buell, she was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Agnes Adams, and a brother, Charles Mason.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 19, 2010 at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, with burial following at the West Liberty Cemetery in Fulton.

Memorials may be made to the Fort Scott Community College Endowment Scholarship Fund and left in the care of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Wall St., P.O. Box 309, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
