Rich Hill, Mo. -- A gas leak is suspected in the explosion of a house June 8 that severely injured a Rich Hill man, Jack Allen Baker. Baker walked into his home at approximately 9 p.m. on East Chestnut in Rich Hill, lit a cigarette and his house exploded around him.

Baker was transported to Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan. Baker has burns over 37 percent of his body and remains in stable condition and is expected to require a two-month stay to recuperate.

His cousin, Twila Morrow, who works at the Nevada Daily Mail, is seeking help for the family and the expenses they will bear in the coming months. Baker's family will be traveling back and forth to visit him.

"Your prayers and donations will be greatly appreciated," Morrow said. "His mother and sister have a van to go back and forth but they just can't afford all the gas and other expenses, they really add up."

Morrow can be reached at (417) 684-7190 or cards and donations may be sent to: Twila Morrow, 1123 East Walnut, Nevada, Mo. 64772.
