Thousands of people walked the streets of downtown Fort Scott during the 28th Annual Good Ol' Days Festival.

"I thought it went very well," Good Ol' Days Committee Chairwoman Becky Weddle said.

Guests were treated to a host of entertainment with life performances on the main stage, gospel stage, and Liberty Theatre. Weddle added she heard a lot of comments about the street dances.

"I think we had some really good entertainment," Weddle said.

The DockDogs contests proved to be a tremendous success drawing hundreds of spectators to each competition. There were several participants in the competition who came from the southeast Kansas area. According the Weddle, the committee is interested in attempting to bring the DockDogs back for next year's Good Ol' Days.

The Fort Scott National Historic Site was also home to many activities and presentations which drew crowds all weekend long.

This year's event saw a few changes. The main change was the elimination of the admission charge. Weddle said the decision was very popular among those in attendance.

"There were a lot of people happy about that," Weddle said.

Weddle added, another change was that some events had entry fees ranging from $1 to $10 however it may not be enough to break even.

"That's not going to offset a gate by any means," she said. "We'll find out what happens when its time to pay the bills."

Weddle said the committee has not yet compiled all the figures to know the financial outcome of the event.

"The main thing we need to do is pay our bills now and see where we stand," Weddle said.

The Good Ol' Days Committee is in the process of collecting feedback from event coordinators to begin planning for next year's festival.
