Well done Good Ol' Days committee and countless volunteers!

Tuesday, June 17, 2008

Some 23 years ago, Anne Emerson brought together a group of chamber members, downtown merchants and community leaders to a meeting at the Best Western to discuss a community event that had taken place in another state in which she had been involved. From that initial meeting, the "Good 0l' Days" has become one of the major attractions in Southeast Kansas.

This year's event was a huge success in so far as the quality of entertainment, the parade attendance and the enjoyment by citizens and visitors alike. It's difficult to imagine the amount of work that goes into the planning and orchestration of an event like this year after year. And, the really remarkable thing is that volunteers, members of civic clubs, downtown merchants, the fair board, the historic site and staff, the Chamber and its staff and the City of Fort Scott came together and made it happen.

Special thanks to Chairperson Martha Scott and her able assistant Jim Scott for bringing the magnificent Clydesdale horses to Fort Scott. Were they not beautiful? Year after year, the aforementioned volunteers, without pay and for no other reason than to provide a super community event for all of us to enjoy, give of themselves for the Good 0l' Days celebration.

On behalf of the Chamber Board of Directors, the Chamber President and the Chamber staff -- WELL DONE!!!!

Bob Marshall,

Fort Scott
