Letter to the Editor: Buildings need fixed first

Friday, April 11, 2008

To the Editor,

The Phoenix Project sounds good, but what about the repairs the buildings need. Before we put in new street lights and repair the sidewalks and streets, we need to remodel the buildings and put in fire alarms and burglar alarms. We need to bring the buildings up to code and the 21st century. The buildings need paint, body repair, and new business here in Fort Scott. Why are we spending all the money on the lights and streets? The buildings are the No.1 priority. We need buildings that people want to come to Fort Scott, Kan. and bring business here. New business here means more jobs, money in the economy, and more people moving here. When we fix the lights and streets and sidewalks, people can come to Fort Scott and say, "Fort Scott has nice sidewalks and lights uptown, but they have no business that I want to go back and spend money in. Their buildings are dirty and unsafe for a business or a business I might bring."

I don't think the people of Fort Scott want their town known as an old, dirty, no business town with good lights and sidewalks. Fort Scott can be a growing town with buildings downtown that are clean and safe.
