100 YEARS AGO

(1907)

This morning at the Catholic church in Sedalia the wedding uniting Mr. Oscar Piotrowski and Miss Mattie Myers occurred. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Piotrowski of 522 Lowman and his bride arrived here this afternoon on the Katy train and this evening at 8 o'clock a wedding dinner will be tendered the young couple by the groom's parents. They will shortly return to Sedalia where they will reside. Mr. Piotrowski is employed at the Katy shops in Sedalia and is an industrious boy whom everyone admires. He was born and reared in this city. The bride is from an old respected family in Sedalia.

75 YEARS AGO

(1932)

A courageous pursuit by Walter Davis, Fort Scott motorcycle patrolman, was cited today with being one of the principal factors in the capture of three men identified as members of the gang that yesterday robbed the Citizens National Bank here of $32,000. When the alarm was telephoned to the police station, Davis answered the call and immediately gave chase to the fleeing machine containing at least five men and two girls carried as hostages by the bandits. They were captured last night north of Nevada. The Fort Scott policeman entered the jail at Nevada and viewed Geo. Allen, whom he identified as the driver. Davis looked at him a moment and then said, "Well, buddy, you and I had quite a chase this morning, didn't we?"

50 YEARS AGO

(1957)

Robert E. (Bob) Galvin, chief pharmacist at Mercy Hospital, was installed president of the Fort Scott Lions Club and Mrs. Merle Dorsey was installed as president of the Lady Lions.

Fred Sinn's herd of 22 cows, with none dry, topped the production records of the Bourbon County Dairy Herd Improvement Association for May.

Earl Reynolds' herd of 43, with three dry, was second.

Pawnee 4-H Club met with Mrs. Clara Brewer for a project meeting. Bobby Howard and Butch Brewer brought cookies to be judged and Shirley DeCoudres and Mildred Brewer brought muffins.

Fort Scott stock car racers who took part in the stock car racing last night at Iola were Junior Simms, Lloyd Tanner, Harvey Shane, Roscoe Wurtz and Dale McDaniel.

First Bourbon County wheat came to local elevators and mills yesterday. Eldon Findley of west of the city brought 250 bushels to Fort Scott Feed and Grain, 11 North Clark. A.K. Hillman of east of the city brought in 50 bushels to Englehart Elevator, 224 North Hill.

(1982)

Miss Darlene Doherty, New Orleans, La., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Doherty of Fort Scott, recently graduated from Louisiana State University School of Nursing. She graduated with a 3.50-plus which qualified her for the Dean's Honor Roll. She graduated from St. Mary's Hospital in 1965 as a registered X-ray technician.
