Marilyn McQuitty

Marilyn McQuitty, age 76, of Fort Scott, died Sunday morning, November 12, 2006, at the Mercy Health Center. She was born on July 3, 1930, in Fort Scott, Kansas the daughter of John E. and Helen McClain Lockwood.

She attended Eugene Ware School and graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1947. She was school president her senior year. She graduated from Fort Scott Community College and was editor of the school paper her sophomore year.

Marilyn married her high school sweetheart, Wendell Biles in 1949. He died in a boating accident at Elm Creek Lake in 1952. She married Raymond Myers in 1956. They later divorced. She married Jack McQuitty in 1976. He preceded her in death in 1985.

Marilyn rode horses in her younger years and was a member of the first saddle club in Fort Scott, which her father helped organize. She was Bourbon County Register of Deeds for two terms and was a teller at Citizens Bank for 12 years. She later worked as a secretary at Larkin and Associates for more than 10 years. She was well known in the community for her ceramic work.

She is survived by five children, Randa Parrish and husband, Jerry, of Hennessey, Oklahoma, Cindi Lipe and husband, David, Tim Myers and wife, Debbie, and Millie Lipscomb, all of Fort Scott, and Peggy Bloesser and husband, Perry, of Nevada, Mo.; two step-children, Virginia Watts and husband, Jerry, of Springfield, Mo. and David Myers and wife, Jo, of Bronson; ten grandchildren, Trina Arndt, David Ben Lipe, Brian Wilson, Leah Myers, Marci Myers, James Lipscomb, Cinda Fritter, Marc Fritter, Jill Fritter and John Bloesser; ten great-grandchildren, Karleigh Arndt, Miranda Arndt, Jasmine Wilson, Montana Wilson, Brooklyn Meech, Brandt Meech, Cash Lipe, Derrick Fritter, Cade Gosewisch and Chance Gosewisch; and one sister, Moreen Day, of Rawlins, Wyo.

The Rev. Paul Babcock will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 16, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2006, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church.
