Wanda June "Jay" Dunn, age 85, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2025, at the home of her daughter in Spring Hill, Kan. Jay was born July 10, 1939, in Oskaloosa, Mo.,, to Bill and Carrie Guss Carpenter and was the fourth of their six children. She graduated with the Class of 1957 from Liberal High School. City moves in new direction with historic preservation

After hearing feedback from members of the Design Review Board and a lengthy discussion, Fort Scott City Commissioners on June 17 approved a motion to establish a historic preservation commission and move toward a Certified Local Government. Commissioner Matthew Wells’ motion included adoption of an ordinance for a seven-member historic preservation commission and to eliminate an item in the draft of the ordinance concerning the interior of buildings. County’s newest committee to tackle employee benefits

The Bourbon County Commission is forming another committee, this time to help them make decisions concerning employee benefits. Based on a proposal from Commissioner Mika Milburn-Kee, the commission unanimously passed her motion to form the Bourbon County Employee Benefits Committee and adopt the resolution for the committee. Milburn-Kee said the purpose of the committee is to “explore, evaluate and recommend insurance options for the county’s benefits plan.”...
