In the closest contested race in Bourbon County, incumbent Sheriff Bill Martin kept his seat by a close margin, according to official primary election results released Monday. With 2,430 ballots cast on the Republican ticket for the sheriff’s race, Martin received 1,225 votes (51.08%) to challenger Nelson Blythe’s 1,173 votes (48.92%.) There were 32 undervotes in that race, which occurs when a voter does not vote for one candidate or leaves the ballot blank...

City commission votes to part ways with REDI

The Fort Scott City Commission voted to proceed with dissolving a partnership with the Bourbon County Regional Economic Development, Inc. organization, and discussed the potential fate of a downtown building on Wall Street Tuesday night. Following a 9-minute executive session that included commissioners, City Manager Brad Matkin and City Attorney Bob Farmer, the commission unanimously passed a motion by Commissioner Dyllon Olson “to allow legal counsel to draft a 30-day notice for Bourbon County REDI, and according to our contract with them, to inform them according to the contract, we will be parting ways, essentially,” Olson said.. ...
