Public comment portion of meetings debated

The topic of public comments during meetings was broached during Monday’s meeting of the Bourbon County Commission. A brief discussion on public comments came on the heels of a separate talk on the employment status of County Counselor Justin Meeks. Citizen Mary Pemberton talked to commissioners about Meeks’ status as an “employee or contract worker.” Meeks said that discussion should take place in executive session. County asked to help fund farmers market pavilion

Bourbon County Commissioners are mulling over a request to contribute county funds to a project to construct a farmer’s market pavilion in a parking lot on the west end of Skubitz Plaza. During the commission’s April 20 meeting, Fort Scott Mayor Matthew Wells approached commissioners to request 25% of the total budget for the project, which amounts to $37,500.
