Dale Wiley, 78, of Fort Scott, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2022, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo. Arrangements will be announced by the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home.

Marcus Wayne Watson, 31, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022.  He was born on Jan. 19, 1991.  He is survived by his father, Mark Watson; his son, Zander Wayne Watson; and his daughter, Zelda Marie Watson.

Norma Jean Fitzsimmons, 90, formerly of Fort Scott, passed away Tuesday morning, Aug. 23, 2022, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Okla. Arrangements will be announced by the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home.

A Bourbon County man accused in the 2017 death of his wife pleaded no contest to two counts of mistreatment of a dependent adult as part of a plea agreement Monday in Bourbon County District Court. A third amended criminal complaint against George Thomas Mellenbruch, filed Monday in Bourbon County District Court, changed the charges to two counts of mistreatment of a dependent adult, a severity level 5 person felony. After Fort Scott City Commissioners could not agree on whether the city would exceed the Revenue Neutral Rate, or they did, by how much, it was agreed to hold a special meeting to hash things out again at noon Friday. Tuesday’s special meeting was to hold a public hearing to discuss the RNR. ...

The USD 234 Board of Education on Monday adopted the district’s 2022-23 budget, which reflects a flat mill levy nearly identical to the rate for the 2021-22 school year.
