Any doubt that Bourbon County officials had about whether the county might qualify for disaster relief funding might have been removed Tuesday afternoon. Bourbon County Emergency Manager William Wallis met with county commissioners to report what he has discovered within the past week. The USD 234 Board of Education voted unanimously Monday night to purchase a building in the Fort Scott Industrial Park for use as a district bus barn. After hearing concerns from several citizens on the purchase, the board voted 6-0 to purchase the old 7-Up facility, a 10,000-square-foot building located at 415 Marble Road for $250,000. Board member Jordan Witt was not present for the meeting, which was attended by about 35-40 people...

Addison Oberley, sophomore at Fort Scott High School, was recently selected for the 2019 All-State softball second team for Class 4A. Oberley, an infielder and first-year starter on the Lady Tiger varsity softball team, was the only Fort Scott player chosen for the All-State team, which is determined by the Kansas Softball Coaches Association...
