After a lengthy discussion Tuesday night, the Fort Scott City Commission approved a proposal to move tourism under the city's direction. Commissioners heard comments both for and against the proposal, which came about at the commission's Feb. 21. Dick and Jan Hedges accept the Keystone Award from Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lindsay Madison. The Hedgeses received the award for their years of service to the community. The award was presented during the Chamber's Annual Dinner and Awards Celebration held Thursday evening at Liberty Threatre. Madison said attendance was at a record high of 206 people. Betty Jo Mitchell, age 87, Blue Mound, Kan., passed away on Thursday March 9, 2017 at the Olathe Medical Center. She was born on Sept. 8, 1929 at Mapleton, Kan., the daughter of Scott and Gladys Lucas Northway. She attended grade school at Xenia and graduated from Blue Mound High School. ...
