City takes over tourism

After a lengthy discussion Tuesday night, the Fort Scott City Commission approved a proposal to move tourism under the city's direction. Commissioners heard comments both for and against the proposal, which came about at the commission's Feb. 21. At that meeting, commissioners approved a recommendation from Commissioner Jim Adams to have city staff research an idea to bring tourism, currently under the direction of the Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce, under the city's umbrella...

Dick and Jan Hedges accept the Keystone Award from Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lindsay Madison. The Hedgeses received the award for their years of service to the community. The award was presented during the Chamber's Annual Dinner and Awards Celebration held Thursday evening at Liberty Threatre. Madison said attendance was at a record high of 206 people.
