Nancy Lynn Hall, 75, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017. She was born Oct. 11, 1941 in Pratt, to Richard and Vivian Hall. Nancy graduated Emporia State with a Bachelor's in education and later graduated Pittsburg State with a Master's degree in education. She was in the Peace Corps in Brazil from 1964-1966, she taught at Recife, Brazil for two years, Perry, Kan., for one year, Annie Wright Seminary in Tacoma for three years and Fort Scott Middle School for 27 years...

Aileen Thompson Hurst, 98, of Salinas, Calif., passed away Dec. 8, 2016. She was born Nov. 8, 1918, in Prescott, Kan., to Claude B and Olga (Faber) Thompson. She was raised on a farm near Hume, Mo. Aileen grew up on the farm with her family and graduated valedictorian from Hume High School in 1935, two years ahead of her peers. ...

Earl F. Severy, age 81, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., passed away Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017, at his home. He was born Jan. 24, 1936, in Fort Scott, the son of Henry Berton Severy and Cora Ballou Severy. Earl married Ivadean Feagins on April 15, 1958, at Miami, Okla. ...

Memorial services for Keith LeRoy Thomas, 85, Lawrence, Kan., will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017 at Vinland United Methodist Church, Baldwin City, Kan. Mr. Thomas died of congestive heart failure in his sleep at his home with family on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017...

Patrons of the Fort Scott Public Library will have a surprise in store this spring. Although not yet complete, renovations at the library, located at 201 S. National Ave., are progressing. Plans are for work to be complete and to move the library from its temporary location in the basement of Memorial Hall by March, Lisa Walther, library director, said Friday.
