Joann Lewis, 89, of Independence, Mo., formerly of Fort Scott and Lawrence, Kan., passed away July 30, 2016 at her home. She was born Oct. 20, 1926 in El Dorado, Kan., to Harold and Eunice (Brant) Van Houten. She was united in marriage to Frank Reed Lewis who preceded her in death in 2003. A seller and her goat wait their turn as Auctioneer Lonnie Stripe of Humeston, Iowa, upper right, sells a goat being shown in the ring. Ron Dilley of Stillwater, Okla., upper left, was also an auctioneer for the sale. This is the first year the sale, which is in its third year under the Heartland name, has been held in Fort Scott. Simmons tops 1st Flight at weekend scramble

Landon Simmons won the First Flight in a scramble tournament held at Woodland Hills Golf Course over the weekend. He shot a 63 to win the group and claim an $80 prize.
