William "Bill" Faulhaber, age 90, resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Presbyterian Village, Fort Scott. He was born June 13, 1925, in Fort Scott, the son of William and Ollie Post Faulhaber. He graduated from Fulton High School with the class of 1943. ...

Exactly 100 years ago today an F-4 tornado ripped through Bourbon County, destroying many homes and properties, leaving behind four injured and three dead. According to a Tribune story written April 20, 1916, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Thompson Hodson, who lived near the Bethel School, was killed in the tornado. Jack Balls was struck by lightening and also killed. He lived in the Poplar Grove neighborhood, the article says...

The Civil War came to life Saturday and Sunday when the Fort Scott National Historic Site hosted the 34th annual Civil War Encampment. About 700 visitors toured the fort Saturday. Carolyn Jane Vann, age 73, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Monday, April 18, 2016, at the Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Mo. She was born Jan. 5, 1943, in Bourbon County, Kan., the daughter of Izear "Zeb" Harris and Dorothy Jane Vann-Ellsworth. She married Russell L. Vann on Aug. 25, 1962, in Fort Scott. Carolyn had worked as a nurse's aide at Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott for 39 years. She enjoyed watching Royals baseball, playing computer games, watching classic movies and reading...
