The USD 235 Board of Education is moving forward with a $2.5 million school improvement project, which voters said "yes" to in April 2015. At their monthly meeting Monday, board members gathered around Brett Miller and Taylor Durr with Knipp Equipment of Wichita; Vic Runer of A-Lert Roof Systems and take a look at plans they have started. The project involves new heating/air-conditioning and new roofs at the junior/senior high school building...

Dr. Daniel Johnson of Prescott has withdrawn his application for the superintendent position at USD 235, according to Sherri Hartman, board of education clerk. In Friday's edition of the Fort Scott Tribune the school district announced three finalists for the position of superintendent/secondary principal...

After 12 years, the framed photographs that have hung on the walls of the Gordon Parks Museum Center for Diversity and Culture have been removed from display. But the walls won't be bare for long. After attending the October Gordon Parks Celebration in Fort Scott, Executive Director Peter Kunhardt and board member Genevieve Young from the Gordon Parks Foundation in New York, N.Y., said the photos' conditions have deteriorated. The representatives said Parks would want the print replaced...

A pair of Fort Scott HIgh School senior athletes signed letters of intent in the FSHS Media Center Friday morning, joining area junior-college programs. Friday was the first day of the signing period for college baseball programs.

Uniontown Junior High girls' basketball teams played road games at Pleasanton and Crest this week. Monday, the Eagles "B" Team defeated Pleasanton, 13-11. Paige Mason led Uniontown with 9 points. The "A" Team lost 30-10. Karleigh Schoenberger led the Eagles with 6 points...

Girard's girls, ranked No. 4 in Class 4A-Division II by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association, did just enough to keep Fort Scott High at bay Friday night, taking a 43-36 win at the FSHS gymnasium. The Trojans did not exactly scorch the nets offensively, shooting just 33 percent from the floor on 15 of 46. But their defensive game plan worked to full effect as a box-and-one defense geared to keep Ashley Cook off the board did just that for most of the game...

Undefeated Girard, ranked No. 3 in Class 4A-Division II by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association, came to the FSHS gymnasium Friday night and Fort Scott High's boys battled them toe-to-toe. However, Drew Davied's 3-point shot with 47 seconds to go gave Girard (8-0) the lead for good as he scored the Trojans' final 5 points in a 47-44 decision...
