It was a busy day for Tiger tennis Thursday as Fort Scott High sent teams to Chanute for varsity play and Parsons to make up an junior varsity tournament that had been rained out earlier in the season. But it was also a good day for both units as the varsity finished second behind Pittsburg at Chanute and the JV took second behind Parsons in a tournament hosted by Labette County High School...

LaCYGNE -- Fort Scott High School's volleyball team took two out of three matches in a quadrangular here Thursday night. But it was the match the Tigers (7-6) lost that had head coach Carol Bingesser raving about her team. The Tigers lost to Louisburg, ranked No. 4 in Class 4A-Division I by the Kansas Volleyball Association, 26-24, 25-15. But the way her team played in that match made Bingesser happy...

CHERRYVALE -- Fort Scott High School's cross country teams had three race winners and a team champion in Parsons' meet at Big Hill Lake here Thursday. Tiger girls won the varsity team title with 51 points, finishing eight points ahead of Independence. Chanute was third with 78 points...

Uniontown High School officials decided not to tempt fate Friday afternoon and made an early decision to postpone its Three Rivers League football contest with Crest to today at 2 p.m. UHS officials were not the only ones who decided not to tempt the weather gods. Labette County and Iola also made a pre-emptive decision to postpone rather than take the risk of being stopped by storms...

The only thing that seemed to be able to stop Pittsburg Friday night was the weather. With about 10 1/2 minutes left to go in the third quarter, the power went out at Frary Field while the Purple Dragons were running a play. The blackout and lightning in the area contributed to a delay of roughly 45 minutes. The rest of the night belonged to the Purple Dragons as they rolled by Fort Scott High, 37-0, in Southeast Kansas League play...
