Inmates will be working outside jail facility

A Southeast Kansas Regional Correctional Center program that was abandoned because of lack of staffing is being revived. Beginning Tuesday, inmates from the jail facility will be providing supervised service to the communities in the county. "This helps us get the inmates out," Jail Administrator Bobby Reed said. "It gives the a chance to pay back to the community. This is by no means work release or community service."...

Group tours bringing visitors to Fort Scott are beginning to swing into town. Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce staff are looking to ramp up the number of tour groups coming into the city. One of the city's and chamber's goals for 2015 is to boost tourism and attract more people to town...

County commission meeting days changing

Because of health issues for a Bourbon County Commissioner, a decision was made Friday to change the regular commissioner meetings to once a week. The change will begin Tuesday. First District Commissioner Lynne Oharah was absent from the meeting, but spoke with Commission Chair Barbara Albright and Third District Commissioner Harold Coleman as the meeting got underway. Albright said they were going to consider a new meeting schedule and would notify him of the decision...
