Many a hammers will be pounding between Oct. 18 and 19, as volunteers organized by the Bourbon County Long Term Recovery Program Committee undertake a roofing blitz. On that weekend, four homes that received damage in the April 7 hail storm will get new roofs. They are homes that belong to Fort Scott residents that either had no insurance or were underinsured at the time of the storm...

Improvements at the Fort Scott Municipal Airport in the coming years were the focus of discussion during Thursday's meeting of the Airport Advisory Board. Board members discussed a proposed airport capital plan, and proposed improvement projects, as well as funding options and grant deadlines. Neva Bunn Hite, age 92, resident of rural Deerfield, Mo., died early Thursday, Sept. 26, at her home. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main.

IOLA -- Fort Scott's Cassidy Westhoff finished fourth here Thursday at the Doc Stiles Invitational hosted by Iola High School. Westhoff tackled the four-kilometer varsity girls' course in 15 minutes, 59.22 seconds, coming in as the last runner to finish in under 16 minutes. Kaylee Bogina of Northeast, daughter of Fort Scott head coach Tracey Bogina, was the winner in 15:25.81. Fort Scott senior Katren Rienbolt, was held out of the race...

Fort Scott Middle School's eighth-grade team hung around with Independence early at Frary Field Thursday night. But the Bulldogs scored in the last two minutes of the second quarter and early in the third and held on for a 22-6 victory over the Tigers (2-1)...

Quarterback Tyler Gorman ran for three touchdowns and threw for another in the Fort Scott Middle School seventh-grade football team's 28-8 victory over Independence Thursday evening at Frary Field. Meanwhile, Fort Scott's defense held the Bulldogs to 104 yards in offense, 65 of which came on Indy's late fourth-quarter touchdown drive after the outcome was no longer in doubt...
