Margaret McLaughlin, 83, of Fort Scott, passed away early Wednesday morning, April 24, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott. She was born Aug. 15, 1929 in Deerfield, Mo. the daughter of George Stewart and Edna Sara (White) McLaughlin. Margaret was a member of Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church and the St. Anne's Altar Society. She retired from The Western Insurance Company after 39 years...

When the April 7 hailstorm battered Fort Scott, local businessman Phil Gonzalez said he knew a lot of the people affected by the storm probably did not have insurance and that a lot of them were elderly.
