Edward "Mac" Arthur Hornecker, 68, died Monday, Oct. 10, in Arkadelphia, Ark. Mac was born April 10, 1943, at the Hornecker Hospital, Sheldon, Mo., to Gordon and Pauline Hornecker. He was the youngest of three children. Mac graduated Nevada High School and attended Joplin Junior College where he received an associates arts degree in 1964. ...

Lavon Liles, 90, a resident of Prescott, Kan., died Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at the Country View Nursing Home in Prescott. She was born Dec. 8, 1920, in Hume, Mo., the daughter of Edward Norbury and Bessie Van Hoozer Norbury. Lavon graduated from the Hume High School in 1937. She married George Edward Liles on Dec. 24, 1938, at Harrisonville, Mo. He preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 2004. She was a member of the Prescott Baptist Church...

After two years, the Buffalo Grill in Fort Scott is closing. Its last day of operation will be Oct. 22, Executive Chef Logan McGear said. "We just don't have enough people coming through the door," he said. Becky Mann, who owns the restaurant with her husband, Dean, said the pending closure stems from a sluggish economy, rising food costs and fuel surcharges. FORT SCOTT, Kan. -- Every year since 1989, Fort Scott High School senior athletes have been coming to Fort Scott Middle School for the annual Tiger Day, and this year was no different.
