During the last week of May, grandson Drew Carpenter stayed with Jack and Mary Lee Payne and helped paint their LP gas tank and wash down their north garage. Drew did a lot of hard work and was a great help. He was grandpa's guest at Kiwanis Club on Thursday and then played golf at Four Oaks in Pittsburg. The official end of the 2011 session was last Wednesday. The last day, there was a motion in the House to reinstate funding for the Arts Commission that the governor had line-item vetoed. City gets clean audit

As a result of hard work by Fort Scott Assistant City Manager Susan Brown and other city staff members, the city's 2010 budget passed its annual audit without any infractions. According to Terry Sercer, of Diehl Banwart Bolten CPAs, the city's budget was examined for any violations under several budgetary laws including the Cash Basis Law and Kansas Statutes. Sercer found the city had accurately documented the income and expenditure of funds without any deficiencies...
