Wanda Lucille Wright, 89, Bronaugh, Mo., passed away on Friday, April 8, 2011, at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada, Mo., following an illness of several weeks. She was born Dec. 10, 1921, in Bronaugh, to Lewis Henry Smith and Lucy Mae Hawkins Smith. She married Robert S. Wright on Sept. 2, 1944, in Fort Scott, Kan., and he preceded her in death on April 21, 1971...

PITTSBURG, Kan. -- Fort Scott High's softball team picked up its first two league victories of the season by sweeping Pittsburg 18-0 and 18-10 in a Southeast Kansas League doubleheader Thursday. PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Fort Scott High School tennis team won 14 of 16 matches here Friday and won the Pittsburg Invitational after a tie-breaker. The Tigers and Pittsburg each finished with 14 team points, but Fort Scott won more games, 124-122. The Tigers (10-4-2 in duals) and Purple Dragons went 2-2 against each other but Fort Scott posted 4-0 sweeps of the other three teams, Iola, Columbus and Labette County...

NEODESHA -- Uniontown's softball team, in the midst of playing four games in five days, defeated Neodesha, 5-3, here Friday afternoon. Thursday afternoon, Central Heights defeated Uniontown by run rule, 10-0, in 5 innings. Uniontown (3-1) scored 3 runs in the top of the first inning. Tiffany Poyner doubles to start things off, then scored on Hope Jurgensen's single. Jessie Camac then belted a home run over the fence to score the other 2 runs...

NEVADA -- Nevada High School's need to join a conference again became more urgent after the Missouri High School Activities Association board of directors voted last weekend to change the format of the football playoff system starting in 2012.
