It's definitely spring time and great weather to be outdoors! But the screens in our homes -- television, computer, video games, and cell phone -- can sometimes tempt us to spend too much time in front of them. Health experts say screen time at home should be limited to two hours or less a day, unless it's work- or homework-related. The time spent in front of the screen could be better spent being more physically active and setting a good example for our families...

On Monday, April 5, members of the Elks Lodge 579 visited the Veterans of Presbyterian Village, 2401 S. Horton. Dr. William Aldis, age 89, former resident of Fort Scott, died Saturday, April 17, 2010, at Bickford Assisted Living Center in Mission, Kan. He was born July 29th, 1920, in Emporia, Kan., the son of Steadman and Ethel Rebeca Fry Aldis. His father was a United Methodist Missionary in India. Dr. William spent most of his childhood in India, graduating from Woodstock High School in Mussorie, India, in December 1937. During this time he attained the Eagle Scout honor through Boy Scouts of America...
