Students who will return to school in the USD 234 school district on August 17, will have an opportunity to meet their teachers at a special open house. A new floor at the Fort Scott National Historic Site leads to an archaeological dig in the carriage house. The test excavation, which began last Tuesday, is being lead by Bill Hunt who is an archaeologist with the Midwest Archaeological Centers in Lincoln, Neb. Judge Mark Ward granted a pretrial continuance Thursday in Bourbon County District Court for the case of a local man who allegedly participated in an assault on a woman last fall. Members of Fort Scott Elks Lodge No. 579 gathered for a day of fun on July 4. Young and old teamed together to try their skills at ladder golf, washers and bocce ball.
