100 YEARS AGO (1908) Mrs. C.H. Haynes has presented The Tribune with clippings of the old Monitor of very old dates. One is a local having to do with an accident that befell Gene Ware and T.F. Robley, described as "young men" out riding on a summer's eve. A farmer's team ran into their vehicle and demolished it. This was years and years ago. Monday marked the first day for, The Fort Scott Tribune to operate with a new managing editor. Justin Messner took over the duties for outgoing managing editor Robin Hixson. Messner was a commercial art major in college, but he also has written literary works while at Pittsburg State University. Bourbon County man receives max sentence for sex crime

Nathan E. Goodwin was sentenced Monday to 11 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 15 year old girl. Bourbon County District Judge Mark Ward handed down the maximum or "aggravated" sentence on Goodwin on two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, severity level three felonies. Ward sentenced him to 71 months on the first count and 61 months on the second. The sentences will be served consecutively or back to back...

College votes not to renew AG professor's contract

The Fort Scott Community College Board of Trustees voted unanimously on Monday to not renew the contract of non-tenured FSCC instructor Ed Sutton.
