Swingers kick up their heels at Buck Run

It was a perfect evening for the senior citizen dance at Buck Run Community Center. We are always glad to see a few couples come in early and help put out the tables and chairs. Many times those couples leave soon after break time and others stay and help with the final closing of the evening, while the band members are putting their instruments away to take home, some of the dancers stay and help put the tables and chairs and big fans away...

USD 235 board gives UJSHS softball, baseball programs a chance

UNIONTOWN -- The USD 235 Board of Education voted to field a softball team next year for Uniontown Junior Senior High School and chose to give a local group more time to raise money for a baseball program. During their regular meeting Monday evening, the board members approved a motion to begin a softball program in February 2008 and another motion to grant a 60-day extension for parents and other local residents who are trying to raise money to pay for a baseball program next spring...

FSCC trustees approve $12 million budget

The Fort Scott Community College Board of Trustees met Monday night to discuss the budget for the upcoming school year. The board voted unanimously to adopt the nearly $12 million budget created for the 2007-08 school year. The college does not plan to stray from the budget but should the need arise, the school board will be consulted, FSCC President Clayton Tatro said...

Giant Moth blamed for Monday accident

A giant moth flew in the face of Ty Guenot while he was driving on Monday, causing him to lose control and wreck a full-sized rental truck on U.S. Highway 54. Guenot and a passenger, Cody Konstantem, were not injured in the single vehicle accident shortly after 11 a.m. on U.S. 54 about 6 miles west of Fort Scott. Guenot and Konstantem were checked out by emergency workers at the scene. Guenot suffered minor scratches on his back...
