UNIONTOWN -- The seven-member USD 235 Board of Education attended a special meeting last month designed to, among other purposes, help the board to better conduct its operations. OSAWATOMIE -- As some of the luckier residents of this southeast Kansas town enjoy the Fourth of July, others will have less to celebrate as they return to homes damaged by floodwater. Water continued to recede Wednesday, as drainage structures were opened on the Pottawatomie River. Even severe flooding that caused several road closings in Fort Scott and Bourbon County last weekend could not stop the annual Gunn Park Freedom Fest from taking place.
