Doris Walker, age 88, of Fort Scott, formerly of Arma and Franklin, died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at Carrington Place at Pittsburg.

Mrs. Walker was born July 30, 1918 at Granby, Missouri the daughter of George and Ira Sturgeon Capps. Mrs. Walker was a homemaker. Doris was raised in Granby, Missouri and attended Granby schools. She lived in Southwest Missouri until 1956 when they moved to Southeast Kansas and lived in Treeco, Cherokee, Arma, Franklin, Pittsburg and Fort Scott. She worked for Pittsburg USD No. 250 as a cook and also managed the Fort Scott Congregate Meals Program until she retired. She married Rev. Orville Walker on October 10, 1936 at Granby, Missouri. Rev. Walker preceded her in death in October 1974. She was a member of the Southern Baptist Church at Fort Scott.

Survivors include one son, Donalle Walker of Fruitland, Washington; two daughters, Patricia Cowan, Pittsburg and Linda Fisher, Kansas City, Missouri; three sisters, Cassie Murray, Sacramento, California, Susie Greer, Diamond, Missouri, and Peggy Boutelle, Rochester, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Doris was preceded in death by a son, Charles Walker; a daughter, Shirley Burford; a sister, Myrtle Organ; and three brothers, Sam Capps, Bill Capps, and Jack Capps.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 5, 2007 at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma with the Rev. George Crawford officiating. Burial will be at the Pittsburg Garden of Memories Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-4 p.m. Friday at the Bedene Chapel at Arma. Suggested donations to the American Heart Association.
