Skating rink proposal stalls

A request for the city of Fort Scott’s assistance in funding a downtown ice skating rink could not gain any traction during Tuesday’s meeting of the Fort Scott City Commission.

Diane Striler, who brought the idea to commissioners during their Feb. 20 meeting, said a payment plan has been worked out with KwikRink Synthetic Ice, a Minnesota-based company that offers portable synthetic ice rinks, and organizers want to move forward quickly.

“We need to make a decision as soon as possible to lock in pricing,” Striler said.
