City closes lake valves, still urges conservation

The valves at Rock Creek Lake and Lake Fort Scott were closed as of Wednesday, according to announcement from Fort Scott City Manager Brad Matkin.

“This is thanks to not only the weekend rains but also to the citizens of Fort Scott doing their part in conserving water,” Matkin wrote in an email to the Tribune. “Thank you!”

However, the city will continue monitoring the water levels and reopen the valves if necessary. Matkin said the city would make an announcement if that has to happen.
